What did 10 days in France teach me?

For the first time in 30 years, I was alone in my hometown.

As I strolled in the streets, I enjoyed looking at the french women's dresses, and the teenagers coming out of class drinking a cup of coffee in a cafe as I used to do with my friends.

As I drove around, I listened to the radio station that my dad likes. This station offers only songs from the '80s and '90s. It was like I was back in time. Lots of nostalgia and yet a feeling of so much accomplishment.

I felt content, knowing my adult children were happy on their path, and my husband was safe at home. I was free to be who I am, free to enjoy what I want.

"My" city did change, as I did, and yet it was still the same, as I am.

These 10 days made me realize how much I am true to myself despite the difficulties I faced, despite moving to another continent, and despite the grief of losing my mom and my children moving away.

Being by myself on the train, bus, or metro like I used to be as I was single reminded me how strong, determined, and happy I am.

We can forget ourselves as a woman in the turmoil of emotions that we feel as a mother but the woman is always there!

There is a life when our children leave, we have purpose and still so much to discover. this is our opportunity to find it.
